INTERNATIONAL GRANNIES TOURNAMENT STARTS WITH A BANG IN NKOWANKOWA
 

The much awaited Grannies International Football Tournament(GIFT) finally kicked off today at a packed Nkowankowa Stadium. The tournament will see 20 grannies football teams from seven different countries compete for three days. 

The day started with a colourful parade in the streets of Nkowankowa followed by an official opening ceremony at Nkowankowa Stadium. 

The opening match of the tournament between Vakhegula Vakhegula and their US counterparts ended with the US team winning 4-2. 

About 400 participants from the USA, France, Lesotho, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe , Togo, Malawi and Guinea have descended in Tzaneen. 

The games will be played in two venues, Nkowankowa Stadium and Tzaneen Primary School. 

The tournament will take place from 26 -29 March 2023

The tournament is the brainchild of Beka Ntsanwisi of the Beka Ntsanwisi Foundation.  Beka is philanthropist and media personality from Nkowankowa Township. She is known for her a charity work throughout the province. Her work include amongst other building houses for the poor and funding education of the less privileged.
